In 1849, Charles Hager, a German immigrant, took a job as a forger at a blacksmith shop in St. Louis, Missouri. He soon purchased the business from his employer and found success forging metal wheel rims and hinges for wagons headed to the gold rush. Charles called his thriving business C. Hager & Sons Hinge Manufacturing Company.

Charles Hager was an intelligent businessman who valued quality and innovation. He created products using only exceptional materials and embraced new manufacturing techniques that helped produce quality goods more efficiently.

Over time, C. Hager & Sons Hinge Manufacturing Company evolved into a more diverse company, Hager Companies. Hager Companies has expanded product lines and refined processes to manufacture and distribute a wide variety of commercial and residential door hardware products. Our product lines include architectural hinges, residential hinges, roton continuous geared hinges, stainless steel continuous hinges, trim & auxiliary, thresholds & weatherstripping, sliding door hardware, locks, door closers, and exit devices.

While leading the industry with innovative products and manufacturing techniques, Hager Companies has never lost sight of the one thing our founder considered most important to success: putting our customers first. This ongoing philosophy has helped ensure the enduring success of our company.

Today, after more than 160 years, Charles Hager’s legacy continues to be a driving force in our day-to-day operations. Fifth and sixth generation Hager descendants still own and operate the business, with a hands-on approach that upholds the company’s reputation for excellence. Our high regard for our history can be found at the Hager Companies headquarters — in the same St. Louis, Missouri, location where the business started, a building that is now designated as one of the region’s historic landmarks by the Missouri Historical Society.

Hager Companies employs approximately 400 employees in the United States and has developed key strategic partnerships with international suppliers. Our manufacturing plant is located in Montgomery, Alabama, with distribution centers in Montgomery, Alabama, Phoenix, Arizona, and an international distribution center in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Through our ongoing international marketing and sales initiatives, Hager products can now be found in buildings throughout the Middle East — including the Burj Dubai and Burj Al Arab buildings in Dubai — as well as throughout Asia, South America, Central America, and North America. But while Hager Companies has become a global company with expanding international sales and product lines, we continue to maintain a strong commitment to the domestic operations that have been instrumental in our success.

Hager Companies is positioned for continued growth, always with an emphasis on quality and customer service. We are dedicated to finding new technologies and processes to constantly improve our products and services. We are also continually taking steps to minimize our impact on the environment.

For example, our manufacturing plant in Montgomery, Alabama, features a special wastewater pre-treatment facility that removes 98.5 percent of the soluble metals created during our manufacturing processes. Company wide, Hager Companies has started recycling initiatives at our headquarters and other locations and has changed our product packaging to include 20 percent recycled content. We’ve also chosen to use printing companies who are Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified to produce many of our marketing materials. (The FSC is a non-profit organization devoted to ensuring forestry is practiced in an environmentally responsible way.)
