Distribution Supervisor

Position Summary

Plans, organizes, and monitors the receiving, storage, and distribution of all items ensuring a smooth and consistent operation so items are distributed in an effective and efficient manner. Provide supervision and support to all team members through training on various job functions, skills development, and problem resolution support. Play a major part in the ongoing development of the direct reports, skill level, production efficiency and moral. Serve an active role in the communications of work status on key performance measurables and future course for the Distribution Center.

Essential Functions
  1. Schedule workload for Distribution Team Members by utilizing the Boxworks software system to release customer orders, by like groups, for floor processing; (picking, shipping method, itemization, crating, WOG’s, or exports.)
  2. Make daily work assignments based on the customer requirements for that day, (receiving, put-a-ways, picking, shipping, cycle count) and any special handling processes that must be performed, (itemization, crating, WOG’s, and export labeling,) on customer orders.
  3. Monitor performance of all process areas, picking through picks per hour, receiving and put-a-ways through old in-transit reports and stock consolidations through the replenishments report.
  4. Coordinate with customer service department any customer order changes before and after shipment. Communicate with customer service by phone and customer service e-mail system.
  5. Manage on-time shipments by reviewing old order report for any customer order discrepancies.
  6. Assist Team Members with system issues involving orders and the necessary corrective action.
  7. Answer incoming calls, direct to appropriate party.
  8. Review stock of various warehouse supplies and reorder, as necessary.
  9. Manage Team Members payroll system.
  10. Schedule vacations and personal absence for Team Members in a manner to minimize the impact on team’s ability to meet customer needs.
  11. Resolve inventory discrepancies identified with every effort to locate the material and/or involve the appropriate departments in determining the proper adjustment to make.
  12. Maintain files on shipping related documents as required.
  13. Process all necessary paperwork concerning export orders, coordinate shipments with export department.
  14. Perform performance reviews on all assigned Team Members utilizing the Performance Evaluation System, The Wage Scale Step Requirements and The Wage Scale.
  15. Perform disciplinary counseling for Team Members that do not follow company policy or are not meeting documented work assignment expectancies in accordance with company policy on the disciplinary process.
  16. Be the Team Leader in identifying, supporting, and initiating methods to improve efficiencies in all key measurables for the Distribution Center.
  17. Observe all company safety policies and procedures and enforce them with all Team Members.
  18. Perform monthly safety inspections as outlined in company Safety Program. Make assignments and monitor housekeeping program.
  19. Gather data from WMS and ERP system to determine volume of open orders to be filled and communicate this information to all team members and to upper management daily.
  20. Contact freight carriers, FedEx, UPS and truck lines for shipment tracking, pickups, and special orders. Scheduling warehouse load pick-ups.
  21. Identification and coding of freight bills for both incoming freight and outbound freight.
  22. Coding of miscellaneous expense bills with correct account number.
  23. Other related duties as assigned.
Position Qualification Requirements

Education / Knowledge: Bachelor’s degree or four years of college in related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience. Lean certification strongly desired. Knowledge of Bar Code Technology preferred.

Experience: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job function satisfactorily. Requires three to five years’ experience in Warehousing, Receiving, Inventory Control, or Materials Management with a minimum of two years of supervisory and performance management experience in an automated system manufacturing/warehouse environment. Highly organized professional with strong organizational, problem solving, resource management and creative at planning time utilization skills. Strong team building skills with excellent communications and interpersonal skills; willingness to listen. Must have a minimum of two years’ experience with a computer-based WMS system. Computer proficient with Windows environment, MRP, MS Office, Outlook. (Familiarity with Boxworks or D365 is desirable.) Must have proven abilities in the areas of leadership, verbal & written communication, change management, process improvement, coaching, and performance management skills.

License(s)/Certification(s) Required: Forklift Operator certification.

Physical Activities/Demands: Normal office environment which requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, and see. May involve the ability to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects of up to 15 to 20 pounds, infrequently. Working Conditions: Working conditions commonly associated with the performance of the junctions of this job.
  1. Worker exposed to temperatures sufficiently high and low to cause bodily discomfort.
  2. Worker exposed to sufficient noise above the ambient noise level.
  3. Worker exposed to hazards such moving mechanical parts and electrical current.
  4. Worker may be required to wear safety shoes, safety glasses, welding helmet, gloves and/or rain suit.
